Food for the Future!?: Stars + Honey Bars
A Bite-Size Read for Your Health and Waistline
I love hearing from you, dear readers and podcast listeners. Following my article dissecting Barebells Protein Bars, I received a DM saying I needed to look at the Stars + Honey bars. Admittedly, I wasn’t familiar with them, so I visited their website, and immediately I knew why they asked about this brand.
The first line at the top of the homepage says, “flavor you can feel.” I stopped in my tracks for a minute. I’m not sure I know what that means, to be honest. Then it continues, “beautifully made bars crafted with 10 grams of collagen peptides.” Now here’s the thing — the marketing is marketing, if you catch my drift. I see words, and I understand them, but together, they have very little meaning to me.
Scroll down a bit and you’ll read that their bars also contain, “180 calories, 2 grams of sugar, and 15 grams of protein.” I’m intrigued! I dug a little deeper to find the collagen is type 1 and type 3 hydrolyzed collagen peptides from grass-fed bovine sources. This is a yes from me.
Under their calorie explanation, I found it funny that they say, “bovine collagen is rich in glycine, which boosts your metabolism and keeps you satisfied.” So, glycine is an amino acid that’s best paired with collagen; that’s a pretty common combination. While I like…
