Time — On a daily basis, most of us feel like we could use more of it (especially this time of year)! It can be such a fleeting resource. I think it’s safe to say we all want to make the most of our time, both on a daily basis and in life. We all have the same amount each day. We just don’t all get the same number of days. This means, for all of us, our time is valuable; precious, as they say.

When we think about the daily things, we can be impatient. And when I say we, I mean it. I’m right there with you. These days, we’re so accustomed to instant gratification and nonstop distractions. When we’re asked to embrace delayed gratification, it feels almost unnatural. Think about it: we constantly turn to our phones during idle moments — while commuting, waiting in line, in an elevator, etc. There’s always some input to help us pass the time.

Yet, where does this leave us when it comes to our goals? As I’m a health coach, let’s think about this in the context of health goals. You’ve probably heard the saying, “we didn’t gain the weight in a day, and it won’t come off overnight either.” On some level it’s a helpful reminder that things take time. But let’s be honest — if you’re like me, hearing that does not make anything easier.
