A Bite-Size Read for Your Health and Waistline

Now is the time for release of the movies expected to be blockbusters, Oscar contenders and simultaneously everyone will be setting goals, grand commitments, for the new year. In thinking about these two things, it struck me as I was watching Breakpoint Season 2 on Netflix (the tennis show, if you haven’t checked it out yet) there’s something about the acceptance speeches these athletes give after winning a Grand Slam tournament. They said the words that described what we just saw in action, and it reminded me of my work as a health coach.

When you watch these speeches, whether it’s movie awards or sports, there are a few things you always hear. First, there’s the talk about the experience — the work, the challenges, the lessons they learned along the way. Then, there’s the feeling of being recognized, this moment of getting credit for all that effort. There’s also the bigger meaning they find in what they’ve accomplished, something beyond just the win itself, that brings them to share it with others. And often, they dedicate their success to someone special — a parent, a mentor, or maybe a kid out there who sees a bit of themselves in this person on the big stage.
