More Activity, Less Gym
A Bite-Size Read for Your Health and Waistline
Home gyms, or a variation of one, are almost ubiquitous these days. Still, I often hear people say, “I don’t have time” or “I’m bored with what I have at home.” I get it! As a health coach, it’s my job to help people over and around these hurdles. So, what if our first step was to reframe exercise to think of it as activity. Hmmm, how does that change things? Getting curious? And what if our second step was to think about how we can find more activity in our daily lives, without needing the gym or dedicated, separate time?
In thinking about it as activity versus exercise, consider extra steps as a huge win! A simple way many of us have heard of before is to park farther away from the door in a parking lot, but there are so many more options.
Outdoor Activity:
· Walk to the mailbox instead of driving by and picking up the mail on your way.
· If you have a couple of extra minutes, pick up the mail from the mailbox, one item at a time, walking back and forth a few times.
· Do walking lunges or something to get to the mailbox.
· Wash your car yourself (bonus: this could be fun to do with kids). You’re also hitting many muscle groups with this one: squatting to get the tires, calf raises to get the roof, scrubbing for the arms and shoulders.
