Feeling A Lack of Motivation? Try NSDR!
A Bite-Size Read for Your Health and Waistline
Let’s be honest, we all know the feeling of not wanting to exercise (or any number of things) simply because we don’t feel like it. We don’t have the motivation to get up and do it. I’ve said before and I’ll say again — I think we’ve been sold a load of nonsense when it comes to motivation.
Most people can relate to that feeling of sitting around, waiting for lightning to strike to make us feel motivated to get off the coach and exercise. When my clients and podcast listeners relay the story it sounds something like, “I know what to do, I just don’t do it.” And seriously, who hasn’t been there?! Here’s a tangible tool we can all use to increase our immediate motivation in just moments.
Is it even possible to improve motivation that quickly? It is! What we know from research is that motivation is tied to dopamine. Think of your dopamine reservoir as a water jug that’s wider at the bottom and tapers at the top. One of the keys to dopamine, and therefore motivation, is to replenish the dopamine before it gets too empty. Since the bottom of that jug is wider, it’s harder to fill at the bottom than it is at the top. So with that visual in mind, the trick is to do this exercise before your dopamine level is all the way at the bottom of that jug.
