A Bite-Size Read for Your Health and Your Waistline

With a new season, a new year or new chapter in our lives, we often reflect on the previous ones and think about what we hope to accomplish in the next. In doing so, and if you listen to many “gurus,” you’re likely to create some kind of dream board to see, in images, what you want to accomplish or what you want your future to look like. While a vision board can be a useful tool, I often see it’s also the thing holding people back.

How is this possible?

Here’s what I often see…we’ll call this person Joe, for our example. Joe creates their dream board, adding a photo of a house with four pillars in front and a double door, he adds an ad for the exact make and model of the car he eventually wants to own. Fast forward, Joe’s shopping for a home and finds one with two pillars and a single door. Joe thinks, “Well that’s not it, it doesn’t look exactly like the picture on my dream board,” and Joe dismisses this house.

We can get so connected to the specifics of the exact pictures we pinned on our dream board that we can’t see the opportunities right in front of us because we’re so stuck on the details and what we think it’s going to look like — it’s like stepping over $100 bills to pick up pennies!
