Check the Box of Daily Exercise in Only 4 Minutes
A Bite-Size Read for Your Health and Waistline
I was recently asked what superpower I’d like to have…my first instinct is always the power to teleport. For me, the worst part of any activity is the commute. My second choice, they asked. It came to me quickly. More time in the day!
All too often, my clients and podcast listeners tell me when they feel like they’re running short on time, they nix their exercise. What if this only required a mere FOUR MINUTES per day?!
Enter: Tabata.
You may have heard of Tabata because it’s like High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts which have become quite popular in the last few years. The big difference between Tabata and HIIT is the strict structure of Tabata.
Tabata consists of either 4 or 8 exercises. If you pick 4, then you’ll do each one twice. The intervals are 30 seconds each: 20 seconds of very intense exercise, 10 seconds of rest, repeating 8 times for a total of 4 minutes. Each interval of intense exercise is one of the four (or eight) moves. Here’s an example*: High knees for 20 seconds, rest 10 seconds, plank for 20 seconds, rest 10 seconds, kettlebell swings for 20 seconds, rest 10 seconds, pushups for 20 seconds, rest 10 seconds; repeat from the beginning.
