A Bite-Size Read for Your Health and Your Waistline

Have you ever said, “I can’t fit my exercise in today” or “I can’t find time to go to the grocery store?” Or, related to anything, “If I only had __(fill in the blank)__.” If you found yourself nodding yes or thought “sounds familiar,” try this mental exercise.

What if you changed your language from “can’t” to “not willing?” “I’m not willing to fit my exercise into this day.” “I’m not willing to find time to go to the grocery store?” “I’m not willing to learn to play guitar or find the right teacher.”

It sounds different, right? It hits harder with this shift in language. In this phrasing, we’re highlighting that we are truly capable of doing these things, but don’t want to. It’s not about an inability; it’s that we’re not prioritizing the activities we “can’t” do.

My question to you (without judgment) is: what are you willing to do…for your health, your energy, and your joy? It’s not a trick question; I have absolutely no judgment on what you are willing to do or not! Asking the question in this way simply allows us to manage expectations.

Expectation management comes in handy because we are often theoretically wanting to do something, but, unwilling to do what is necessary to achieve that outcome…
