Is it just me, or does travel bring out your basic human instinct, the hunter-gatherer-needing-food-to-survive mentality? I remember times when I was not hungry, then walked into an airport, got past security and my brain went directly to food: where can I stop? What do I want?! It’s funny because on a typical day, it’s not unusual to go 3.5 hours without food or just having water. Add travel into the activity for that time window and suddenly we need sustenance! I know it’s not just me; according to the International Air Transport Association, it’s projected that passenger numbers could double to 8.2 billion by 2037, with an average of 50% of passengers eating and drinking at airports!

In the 17 years as a health coach, I’ve evolved myself and helped countless clients navigate airports and travel hunger. This Summer, as you head out on your travels, here are some of my top tips.

It sounds cliche, yet I’ll say it anyway, a little bit of a plan for food while you travel will go a long way! When I was a kid, my plan was to get Cinnabon at the airport. It was my favorite thing and part of what I loved about travel, and we would get food on the plane.
