It’s the heart of summer: fireworks, parades, beach/pool time, BBQs. The 4th of July is typically a celebration with family, friends, and food! As a health coach, my clients are often challenged by such events. On holidays like this, they tell me they end up feeling bloated, guilty and frustrated with themselves. Can you relate? What do you say if we do it differently this year?

Here are 5 tips I share with clients to stay on track with their health and wellness goals, while also enjoying special celebrations like this one.

1. “Decide the outcome you’re looking for or are willing to accept.”
This is typically the first thing I ask a client when they share concern over a holiday event or even travel. “What’s the outcome you’re looking for?” What I mean is start by deciding how you want to feel when the celebration is over. This is an especially helpful question if you’re traveling for the holiday. Do you want to feel empowered and energized? Do you want to see your measurements change? Would you be OK if the measurements stayed the same? Making this decision is crucial because it sets the tone for the rest of our choices and eliminates the guilt, shame, or frustration as we’re clear about the objective.
